"I am very happy with the Masterclass. As a hairdresser, I have been using the shampoo and conditioner in my salon and also sell them both in my salon and on my website. I initially enrolled in the Masterclass because I had difficulty finding someone to create the product for me, so I decided to make them myself. After searching for a while, I discovered your Instagram and was convinced by the class. I am very happy—thank you!"

“My mission is to make your journey from formulation to scaling easy, enjoyable and successful because the world needs more exceptional shampoo bars!”
I learned to formulate shampoo and conditioner bars in 2020 in an attempt to fix my scalp issues. The bars were such a success among family and friends that I launched Wild Ona solid cosmetics. But my journey didn't end there. Solid shampoo quickly became my obsession and I made it my mission to continuously learn, test, and improve. Along the way, I gained wealth of knowledge and experience which I decided to share with you so that you too can bring your dreams to life.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Are they considered ‘natural’ shampoo bars?
Yes and no. Let me explain! The formulas presented in this masterclass are for soap-free, pH-balanced shampoo bars. In the market, there are various types of shampoo bars, but if you were to categorise them, there are primarily two main types: soap-based shampoo bars (or 100% natural bars) and soap-free (naturally derived shampoo bars). While soap-based bars are entirely natural, they are not suitable for hair and scalp due to their high pH levels, which can leave residue and cause damage over time. For healthy hair, and scalp, and excellent results, soap-free, pH-balanced shampoo bars are recommended. They are naturally derived, but many brands, label them as "natural" since there are no official regulations defining what "natural" truly means.
To learn more about the distinction between soap-based and soap-free shampoo bars, you can read our blog post here.
What sets your base formula apart?
Developing the perfect base formula took me a significant amount of time. First, I identified the essential ingredients required to achieve the desired results. Through extensive testing, I determined the optimal ranges for each ingredient, ensuring that the shampoo bar would be cleansing and produce a good lather without stripping the hair of its natural oils. Additionally, I aimed for a balance between firmness and gentleness, allowing for scalability in large batches and ensuring a smooth and visually appealing final product. I intentionally left room for creativity and customisation by incorporating a few flexible percentages, enabling unique adaptations.
What ingredients will I need and can I source them in my country?
I have specifically chosen ingredients that are widely accessible. You will also find a list of worldwide suppliers. If you live in a remote area, you might need to import the ingredients from your neighbouring country.
For shampoo bars, the main ingredients will be: Sodium cocoyl isethionate powder, Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (optional), Cocamidopropyl betaine liquid, BTMS-25, Cetyl alcohol, Panthenol Powder, Oils, Butters, essential oils, botanical powders & clays (optional), preservative
For Conditioner bars: BTMS-25, Cetyl alcohol, Panthenol Powder, Oils, Butters, essential oils, preservative.
Do I need to invest in a significant amount of equipment?
Not when you're just starting out. You will only need a few Pyrex jugs, spatulas, and a reliable scale. Additionally, it is important to have a respirator to protect against inhalation of dust particles. I have included links to the recommended equipment. As you progress and expand, there are also affordable mixer recommendations available for under 100 GBP.
What is the pH level of the shampoo bars and will I need to measure and adjust it?
The pH level is around 5.5. You will not need to measure or adjust pH level because the ingredients we’re using have optimum pH.
How big are your big batches?
How big are the batches will depend on how big your mixer is. You will find the recommended mixers under the equipment section.
